IDPH Guidelines for Food Banks

“Food Banks” Means:

Public or charitable institutions that maintain an established operation involving the provision of food or edible commodities to food pantries, soup kitchens, hunger relief centers, or other feeding programs that, as an integral part of their normal activities, provide meals or food to needy persons.

Food banks that provide food to any of the feeding programs MUST annually provide a list to the State-certified local public health department or departments that have jurisdiction.

Listing shall include the following information for food recall alerts and other communications:

  • agency name
  • type of feeding program
  • address
  • phone number
  • fax number
