Public Health Node
Public Health Node(PHN) is centralized cloud-based system for public health data aggregation hosted in the SAS 70 certified environment by MRAIA as a agent of the IDPH.
So far there are several core functions performed at the PHN:
- PHN aggregate and submit data created by certified EMR’s and received thru ILHIE to the Illinois Comprehensive Automated Immunization Registry Exchange (I-CARE), Illinois National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (I-NEDSS), and to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's BioSense program and their National Healthcare Safety Network Surveillance system (NHSN).
- The PHN is hosting the POPHEALT tool. popHealth is a software tool designed by ONC to assist outpatient facilities with quality improvement and achievement of Meaningful Use through reporting of the Meaningful Use Clinical Quality Measures. The tool provides dashboard reports and patient registries based on data obtained from electronic health records. popHealth is an open source software tool, free to download and modify based on clinic and organizational needs. The Illinois Department of Public Health supports a V3 instance of popHealth and receives data from several primary care practices as part the Health Hearts cardiovascular care improvement project.
- The Public Health Node also provides a valuable service to both health care and public health by hosting the Extensively Drug Resistant Organisms (XDRO) registry, which is a novel, bi-directional informatics tool used for enhanced infection control. Currently, Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), which are resistant bacteria increasingly detected among patients in Illinois, are reported to the XDRO registry. The XDRO registry then provides improved CRE surveillance and inter-facility communication.
