Lake County HD Event: World AIDS Day 2024

World AIDS Day is a special day to support people who are living with HIV, offer an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and find new ways to work together as a community to end the global struggle of HIV-related stigma.

Join us in offering services to our community while learning ways to stay healthy!

How will you help end the HIV stigma?

World AIDS Day serves as an important reminder that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to prevent new HIV infections and provide essential services to all people living with HIV. This year, we commemorate the 36th World AIDS Day with the theme, “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress.” Our program will include presenters who will focus on the progress that has been made over the last forty years thanks to scientific advancements and research. We will also include community focused breakout sessions that engage and educate attendees through topics such as: Real Talk About Safe Sex; Maternal Health; Reducing the Stigma of Being HIV positive, and an interactive session that challenges the myths versus the facts about HIV/AIDS. A host of resource providers will be in attendance to share information and distribute free products. One of our goals is to have free onsite testing available. Through our World AIDS Day event, we want to highlight that HIV/AIDS is still a public health threat, but it can be prevented and there are aggressive treatments that allow those who are infected to live longer safely. By providing this community event, we are helping to accelerate the discussion about HIV/AIDS, challenge the stigma, share the medical advances and possibly change the course of the HIV pandemic through education.

Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland: World AIDS Day: Black Women & HIV: A Critical Conversation

Every year, we unite our community to honor lives lost, celebrate our resilience, and raise awareness about the ongoing impact of HIV/AIDS. This year’s event features afternoon tea, critical conversations, and a panel conversation with local leaders that will explore the ongoing impact of HIV/AIDS in our community, focusing on the experiences of Black women. Be part of a day dedicated to reflection, education, and connection as we support one another in the journey toward health and equity.
