Phlebotomist Training Resources

Public Act 101-0542 requires IDPH to provide training materials on the current methods of drawing blood from children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All applicable health care providers and laboratories are to ensure that all phlebotomists are trained in the most current methods of drawing blood from children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. IDPH is providing the following training resource links that can be used to supplement existing phlebotomist training.

Community Tool Box Online TRAIN Courses for Community Health Improvement

The Community Tool Box are free online courses to support development of community health assessment and community health improvement work. These courses are intended for health departments, hospital staff, non profit organizations, and community leaders.

Consultation, Technical Assistance, and Training for Local Health Departments

Illinois Public Health Institute

As a service to local health departments, hospitals and community health coalitions and organizations, IPHI’s Center for Community Capacity Development (CCCD) offers consultation on community health assessment, planning, implementation, performance management, and evaluation activities. Consultation services are delivered in a variety of ways depending on the results of the needs assessment, the time-line and the most effective delivery mode to build capacity.

MidAmerica Public Health Training Center

The MidAmerica Public Health Training Center (MAPHTC) provides competency-based professional education through assessments, training and evaluation for the Illinois public health workforce. These trainings are conducted either through distance-based formats, or through face-to-face training, such as workshops and conferences

Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health: Public Health Training Centers (PHTC)

The Public Health Training Center (PHTC) program, funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), are partnerships between CEPH-accredited schools of public health, related academic institutions, and public health agencies and organizations. The PHTC program focuses on strengthening the technical, scientific, managerial, and leadership competence and capabilities of the current and future public health workforce. The PHTCs are required to fulfill statutory requirements, as outlined by HRSA.

Epidemic Intelligence Service

Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is the country's critical epidemiology training service, combating the causes of major epidemics. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention {CDC}) 

National Association of Chronic Disease Directors Professional Development and Workforce Training Center

Provides a variety of training/educational modalities including webinars, training videos, public health lectures and on-line courses in the areas of chronic disease prevention and control. (National Association of Chronic Disease Directors {NACDD}) 

National Laboratory Training Network

The National Laboratory Training Network (NLTN) is a collaborative training system of the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Its mission is to improve laboratory practice of public health significance through quality continuing education. (Association of Public Health Laboratories {APHL} U.S., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention {CDC})
