Media Advisory: Opioid Crisis Next Door: Prevention, Care and Treatment Programs for Substance Use Disorders

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Center for Rural Health; the Illinois Health and Hospital Association; the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program; Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development; and the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network are sponsoring a workshop designed to help provide education to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, mental health and behavioral therapists, pharmacists, dentists, policy makers, public health, law enforcement, and community coalitions about care and treatment of people with substance use disorders.

WHY:  A workshop to provide education on the initial care and treatment of people with substance use disorders, options for recovery and management of patients with chronic pain, and to encourage dialog among providers on best practices and challenges of treating individuals in local communities.
